Revisiting this hobby after a 50 year hiatus. Started (late 60’s) with an Atlas N scale set. Wasn’t much, just an oval with a couple cars and 7yo attempting scenery. It was simple but planted the train bug that carried me through today. I dabbled in N scale when DCC came to market but never much beyond that.
Now that I’m older & wiser (so I’ve been told), N scale is simply too small for me to negotiate smaller parts. So my next logical choice was HO yet that brings with it the real estate needed. I stumbled on an old copy of On30 Annual and was sold. I could build a smaller (micro) layout while building structures in O scale - perfect for my tired eyes.
This round, I’m more interested in the scenery & weathering with the layout taking a backseat. Of all the tasks that intimidate me the most - it’s weathering. So after more Internet digging, I stumbled on Brett’s site Sierra West, and again was sold. I’ve spent the last month reading just about every post - I’m amazed by the work. Simply incredible.
Did purchase Dueling Shacks with construction just started. - I’ll post updates soon. Very excited to be part of this hobby!
Kind regards,
Scott

My first advice as this is your first SW kit is "just follow the manual", you will learn so much and have an excellent result. Hundreds of hours went into developing the kit and the manual to ensure you have the best result.
Enjoy the build and share your progress often, we all love to see these kits being built.
But in the end, we're all became addicted...
