  • I like the cars.
  • looking good!
  • Here is my little work train. I’ve tried to do justice to the castings. The framing was scratch built off of photos of Brett’s work trains. I’m not quite done as there are a few more details I want to address.

  • Well done Alex !!!
  • a perfect quarterback rating!
  • Ok,

Here is my little work train. I had to stop myself from adding more stuff to the last car. This evening I just finished up the "plumbing" on the oil and water car. I'll add some weathering to all of the cars a bit later. But, for now I think they are pretty complete.

If anyone has any ideas of what may work better, please let me know. I'm open to ideas.

  • Looks great Alex
  • I like the cars. I'd blacken the pipes.
  • Was gonna say the same thing. Nice work Alex.
  • The pipes are blackened. I polished the valves a bit. I can take a close up of the piping and post it. If the general consensus is more blackening i can add more. It may be the photo and lighting that is showing "shiny" piping..?

The spouts on the hoses aren't blackened.
  • I think i just realized you guys were talking about the pipe on the work car and not the water/oil car.

I'll blacken those pipes next time i'm at the workbench.
  • Wow Alex, beautiful work! Love your wood tones and texture. I I noticed was how you didn't go for the real grungy and weathered look, but more of a well used motif. That can be hard to pull off without looking too cartoonish and too much shiny stuff...you nailed the look here for sure. Very nice.

    Ken,

    Thanks for the kind words.

This is where i'm at. No real significant progress. I Blackened the pipe on the work car. and I now have a base. working on the layout.. Here is what it looks like right now. This is HO quick track that I had on hand. I'm thinking I may rig a spar tree . That is why the one bare trunk is where it is, i'm not completely sure if I will have room though..

  • So,

I've been working on two more cars.. I think this is enough cars, I still have the disconnects as well. I thought I would share these. These are scratch built. One of them many of you will recognize, I copied the design of the saw car with permission.

  • So nice Alex you have done a wonderful job I want one.
  • Those cars really look like something that a work crew would throw together with spare parts. So original.
  • man, you've been busy. outstanding modeling!!
  • Very well done and most inspiring
  • The cars look fantastic. Right at home with the well worn SierraWest buildings.
  • I've made a little progress. I worked on the work shed. I decided I wanted to make a wood floor. I thought if I was going to have a semi open shed I would want it to have a wood floor.. So, now mine has a wood floor

Also, Kevin. You may notice an outhouse at the bottom right of the last photo.

Anyhow, this is what I have to update everyone with at this point in time.

  • That is looking great. I like the way you put the worn and scratched paths on the floor. Only thing missing might be some dirt.
  • Looks awesome!
  • The wood floor is a great addition to the shed. The scratch paths are also great. I agree it should be dirtied up as foot traffic would track a lot of dirt onto it. Also might consider some darker paths from foot traffic, especially around the work bench. Nice work!
  • looks great!Love the grunge and rust
  • Looks great. I don't have that kit. Hmmm.
  • this is a great looking model!
  • Thanks for the kind words.

Tom, i havent done any dirt stuff yet. Actually, the base is just sprayed with kaki right now. I'll do like you said and make some "wear" paths prior to gluing the shed to the floor.
  • Nice work Alex, I like the worn floor in the first photo.
  • I got a chance to work on the work shed a little bit today.. Below are photos of the current progress. I think i'm pretty much done with it except for any of the printed signs I may add.

Also, a mill engine and boiler magically arrived today .
