National Narrow Gauge Convention News

I'm happy to report that my Water Tank and Hand Car Shed that I entered in the model contest garnered a Second Place in the Diorama category. No other Sierra West models were entered that I saw....and I was only slightly eged out by a nicely done huge coal tipple...I also was lucky to get a Second Place in the Logging category with a heavily kit bashed Fn3 Steam Donkey, and a Third place in Geared Loco with a On18 "baby" shay. I'm having issues getting photos to post....

  • Congratulations Muddy !! Well done..
  • Well done! Look forward to the photos!
  • Awesome Art! Glad you received the recognition from our fellow enthusiasts your modeling deserves. That's a tough crowd unlike other national shows. Well done.
  • Another win for SierraWest and the modeler! Well done Art.
  • Way to go Art. Congratulations.

  • Great Job Art. I was there to see your winns. As usual Art's work was outstanding. I was sad that we did not have more Sierra West models in the contest. Being contest chair I did not enter anything. Again goodwork Art. RandyP

  • Thanks Randy...this was one of the best convention contests I've been a part of...you and your staff did a great job...Thanks for those photos'...Ill get some more up once I get my computer to cooperate...
  • Here's a few shots....I'll take some more of the back tomorrow....meanwhile...I'm working on the "O" scale Tie Mill.....
  • Congratulations Art, Great achievements!!
  • Congrats! Nice work.
  • Does anybody know who entered the Brian Nolan replica Machine Shop and SWSM Mill Engine and Boilerhouse?
  • Looks like maybe it was a display set-up? What's up with that Art, Randy?

That was indeed my initial thought but Randy indicated in his post it won best of show.
  • Oh I see that now, what threw me was when Art said his was the only SWSM entered in the show that he saw. Hmm looks like at least two models, so wonder which one garnered the "Best Model" award?
  • I was unaware that it was a replica of the machine shop.....sorry for the misinformation...

That model was at Richard Rands of Berkshire Models after the contest closed....not 100% sure it was his or not...and it was given the Best of Show Models award...
  • Tom Doege is the modeler who built the dioramas. Longtime customer and obviously excellent modeler! I will be posting some pics very soon for all to enjoy.
  • It was 2 dioramas placed together. The machine shop and the boiler house. They were exceptional models.
  • Congratulations, Art, on your winning models. The pics here look great. Super job and well deserved
  • Thanks.....very happy that the diorama did well....the steam donkey was never intended to be a contest model....and the On 1 1/2 Baby Shay was entered on a whim....
  • Art, your modeling is being rewarded. You are exceptional. I had the pleasure of meeting you at the convention the last time it was in Hickory, NC.
    Keep those models coming.

    Rick
  • Thanks Rick....a lot of what I've learned I've learned right here from everyone that posts here. I've always tended to not post too much...but I I will on occasion put up a few photos...or start a thread....my biggest problem....I bounce around too much....too many projects going at once.....I have at least 5-7 SW kits in some sort of progress....including the Sawmill and O'Neills...I also have the O scale foundry well along....just anxiously waiting on further installments....
