  • My wife loves all animals.

that could be a great cover shot for a railroad magazine, let alone a comic book. great shots.
by the way.....if (when) a bird gets in our house, my wife gets terrified and locks herself in the bedroom until i get it out of the house. it's happened twice.
my windows are being replaced today so there's a good chance of it happening again today....
    fun times.
btw...did the bird land on the scene?
  • Keb, supper easy way to get bird or bat. Cheap butterfly net. Follow from behind and dart the net forward. Rotate. Pet bat or bird with a finger. Let go.
  • Great work on the brick detailing. Love how some of the signs are old and faded and some look newer. Beautifully done.
  • I wanted to see if I could get one of those solid one-piece $7 resin junkyard castings to look okay. They usually look like a lump. What do you guys think?

  • What are the cylinder things just above the gas tanks? They have cutouts in the sides.
  • i dunno, but that sure looks like a pile of junk to me. nice paint job.

Looks like a genuine junkyard. No lump at all !!! Very well done. Love the broken glass fragments
  • There is a secret to those broken glass bits. It's an acylic art product with mica fragments. When it dries, it leaves the mica.
  • Drew this inker over the last few days.

    INKER
  • The junk pile really turned out great! The addition of loose details makes everything look like it is a real junk pile and not a casting lump. Also the grasses interspersed in the scene also makes it look real.
  • Yeah Eric, the junk pile turned out just great with your colors. I believe that the cylinders are oxygen and acetylene bottles Were these resin catings or plaster castings?
  • Beyond words. You would never know it was a single casting. Very well done.
  • Drees, I was referring to the weird things just above the acetylene bottles that are Brett's castings.
  • Eric, if you're referring to the corrugated can just above the green and red welding tanks it is a gas can.
  • Ah! Why the strange indentions? Any ideas on color?
  • Are you referring to the items you have painted silver? They are covers for the head on the top of the canister, and are typically vented on four sides to allow airflow through the cap to prevent the accumulation of gas? I hope that helps if I'm looking at the right thing.

what's the name of the product?
  • Just above the two green and red gas cylinders is an object. That I do not recognize. What is it?
  • In the last photo. I painted it kinda tan.

i don't know either, but i would love to know what they are too. they're in all of brett's kits. i just treat them as oil containers
    .
by the way....your drawing of the inker is pretty excellent. it immediately made me think it was an antique bait casting reel.

what is the name of the product you used for the glass shards?

  • Those are 5 gallon gas cans, made by Ellis Co as early as 1890's... google "ellisco gas can" and you can see tons of examples. super common. btw the main casting is not made by SierraWest. Eric appears to have added some of my details to dress it up. Had a few people ask so I thought I would clear up any confusion.

  • Thanks, Brett. Pretty good color guess, eh?

  • nailed it!
  • I had NO idea even what it was. I like good luck.
  • thanks boss! now i know....
  • Keb, GOLDEN art supplies, mica gel.

  • Great job Eric. The grass looks really great and really adds to the realism. I’d like to see a little photo with an arrow pointing to what some of the things are in gang castings. I feel like I have no idea most of the time and I’m just guessing.
  • thanks
  • Steve, just look up BV resin large junk casting, $6.
