Sawdust burner for Sierra West Sawmill

edited October 25 in O Scale Builds
This is not an Sierra West kit.. but.. it goes with the sawmill on my other post.

The Sawdust burner is an old Icon for the sawmills in the time period of the sawmills modeled. The actual sawmill at Sebastopol has one, but no longer in use.

To get the sawdust from the mill to the burner takes some inventive ways. The "powerful" blower installed under the floor at the mill, combined with the big blower on the burner will move the sawdust thru the aluminum pipe very well.

For this model, the pipe is removable to be able to remove the roof of the sawmill.

As you can see the burner is scratchbuilt from brass rod, sheet, and screen. The blower is built with Plastistruct. It is lit inside so when night time comes one can see the flames light on the screen at the top. It is almost 10" in height.

Thanks again all,
Wayne

  • My wife and I visited with Wayne this past summer when we were on vacation in San Diego. Wayne was the most gracious host and his layout is just FFFFFFantastic. I am used to HO scale and its details, but Wayne's details on his ON30 is very impressive.
