  • Looking good Jeroen. Your terrain work looks as it should and will really set a nice base for all the scenic work. Your structures marry with the landscape nicely.
  • I always paint my bases a tan colour before starting scenery work,
That way there is no white, (or blue, whatever) left to show through.
  • I should have done that Karl, so lessons learned here. It’s not a big deal but I could have made it easier for myself…
  • It looks slightly messy and the pics are just snapshots but the second layer of groundwork is on. I have to admit that at times I have no clue what I'm doing but so far so good. So... the plan - finish the rails, build trees and paint all the little stuff in Bretts wonderbox, and use all this as a base to build upon wit finer scenery like grass, moss, little branches and so on. This rough canvas will be much more refined when I'm done. I probably will end this part of the build somewhere with the walkway that goes in front of the huts. I hope this will work out like I want it. Small steps....thumbnail_IMG_3567

  • That looks fantastic. Very realistic, great job.
  • Jeron scenery looks great!! The building really do look natural in that setting.

    Jim, Jerry, thank you both!
  • Good base debris for the scenic work to come. All about layers and you've got that started nicely Jeroen.
  • looks fantastic
  • Great setting.
  • Thank you gents! Your support inspires me to push on with this rather large project!
  • This scene is absolutely incredible - the integration of the bunk houses and scenery is perfect.

I have a coffee table book of amazing logging pictures from Kinsey and the bunk house hillside was inspired from one of the pictures in the book. The picture is a bit haunting with the logged over hillsides (shrouded in mist) surrounding the bunks and the dead fall crowding the area below the bunks and under the spindly walkway. If you think this looks good now, wait until Jeoren adds that walkway!
  • Thanks Brett! That is very humbling. There is still a lot to do. I’m going to build a number of trees for this part of the scene, I’m guessing somewhere around 10. I will need to add all the small details, add green stuff, little tuffs of grass , add moss to the dead wood, refine the debris field and so on. And of course… the walkway. I’m fairly happy with the varying height and direction so I think it will really finish off this part. The railway station will go in the front left corner, again surrounded by trees. For the front right side I’m not sure yet. Or I will take the other buildings from Essentials or I will work in the donkey repair shop…. Decisions decisions…
  • Nice placement of structures. They are settled into your fine landscape.
  • Thank you Tom! There’s still so much to do but I’m enjoying the process immensely. Brett provides us with insanely inspiring kits!
  • Its been a while since I worked on this project but I picked it up again and my intention is to continue working on it until I have the whole hillside of the diorama finished. I started working on refining the scenery, add trees and all the little details from Brett's magic box. The area around the cookhouse is almost done and I'm moving to the right onwards to bunkhouse 1. This is where I am at the moment....

  • Coming together very nicely. Making me want to build this kit sooner than later.......Rick
  • Very nice!
  • Very well done Jeroen. The trees really add to this already great diorama.
  • Structures look right at home in that setting
  • Love the structure colours of the cook house and the details around it, it's looking very natural so far.
Once you get to the point of weathering and blending the scenery together it will excel.

The last pic of the bunk house being brought into the scene is an exciting tease of what is to come...

We are looking forward to it !

Thank you all so kindly. I will have to make some pics outside some of these days because now the colours look more sharp than they actually are, but it will have to do for now. The first bunkhouse is done as well, wit only minor details and some trees. The load of the details will be concentrated around the second bunkhouse, which is the next step. I also added some green moss and stuff in the dry wood in the gulley to color it up a bit. I added a regular Xacto blade for size comparison .

  • Nicely incorporated into the scene!
  • Thanks Tom! This definitely is my favorite part of the build!
  • Jeroen, Things are blending together nicely. Like the trees. Randy
  • Thanks Randy! The trees are from Coastman. You have to build them yourself but it’s not that difficult, Roger has some nice stuff when you want woodlands in the scenery!
  • Fantastic Jeroen! Those trees really make the scene and give it that backwoods logging feel to the diorama. The structure detailing is coming along great. I like how you have some green poking up in and around the dead debris.
  • Thanks Ken, I really appreciate that. I will post some pics of the third bunkhouse soon and then it’s on to the latrine and shower building. I think the walkway in front of the bunks will really tie it together. We will see how it goes. I’m enjoying this very much!
  • I more or less finished the details around the second bunkhouse. Its now on to the shower and latrine car, with some details and more trees. After that: the walkway and correction of small details in the scenery. That should conclude the work on the hillside, although it will take a bit to get there. Hope you like the pics!
