I can add my two cents from my experience at the Denver Narrow Gauge Convention. I think what Mike is referring to in paragraph 6, I will be more blunt, the locals will vote for their buddies models.

When I entered my model, it wasn't at the opening of the contest room. So when I got there, the only room left for my model was in a place in the back. I did have my model mounted on a lazy susan, but there wasn't enough room to turn it so you could see all four sides. My model was HO scale.

When I entered my model , one very nice O gauge model was prominently displayed but the modeler installed flood lamps to make his model more prominent. I believe he won second in his category. He should have been First.
  • I entered a model in 10 th Narrow Gauge Cconvention and that was the first time i ever entered a model and competed with the big boys. I took second place Motive Power which was a On3 logging shay ... I uesd a Battery operated jewelry display i found at a flea market and as soon as i seen it I bought it and new exactly what i was going to use it for. Wow that was 1990 time sure fly's buy
  • Very much appreciated, Mike. Thanks for your contributions to the hobby.
