  • btw - score any tp at costco? none at sams club. gonna be using old sw manuals soon, hah!
  • yeah, we bought a big package of kirkland's brand (not my favorite) tuesday morning. we've got three of them downstairs in storage now just in case. they should have it.
alas, i'm a charmin guy. it says dependable clean on the packaging.....
  • I remember a posting here from a guy who used veneer banding for shakes...veneer banding is used on the edge of plywood for cabinets, shelves , etc....available at Home Depot, Menards, Lowe’s...not sure where it would be located on this site but remember seeing it a couple of years ago....too thick for HO but ok for O I think

  • Kevin, your patience is amazing! After detailing, staining, and installing all that siding, you are willing to do the same type of work on the roof! My hat goes off to you. The structure is turning out really nice.
  • [forehead smack] a good friend of mine runs a cheese packing plant locally and cheese comes in in wheels, round boxes made from thin pine, but inside the boxes on top and bottom of the cheese are thin cedar discs around 12"-14". i've had a boatload of them before and also cedar from cigar boxes. i ended up giving most of it away, but i think i still have some of the round cedar pieces out in the garage. i'll try to find a piece and put it on the paper cutter to cut in strips. i'm curious how it takes color.
  • he just gave me the thumbs up, he'll start collecting the cedar sheets for me.

    tom,
this fantastic hobby is the only reason i have any patience at all. starting off in n scale for ten years, i built literally hundreds of n scale structures. i'd estimate all of the ones from the first couple of years were deep sixed, but as i started to take my time more and more, the structures got better and better. i learned that patience pays. building this structure is showing me how important it is to be patient.....

  • That is going to be one impressive roof, as is the entire structure.
  • thanks gents.
  • i've got the truck repair on the shelf, and i'm waiting for the logging and tractor repair and a set of disconnects. i'm already looking over the truck repair manual/contents, and this hotel build probably won't be close to being finished for another 6 months. so far i'm leaning toward starting the truck repair next, but that logging and tractor repair looks like it could be alot of fun. it'll be a tough decision.....
  • Decisions decisions...,
    Rick
  • i spent a few hours cleaning out some shelves in the garage. check out what i found. i haven't seen this thing in 44 years. i ordered a frame for it today. shame on me for waiting so long...

    btw-it wasn't a terribly fun day.
  • Kevin...I’ve heard many Blue Water Sailors tell of that ritual...luckily we “dirt sailors” didn’t experience it

  • Oh Nostalgia !!!

    terry,
my ass still stings when i remember that day. it was pretty ridiculous. the fun thing was we had a russian destroyer about 2 miles off our port side and they were going through the same thing we were. some guys on the signal bridge were watching them through the big eyes.
    thanks ed.
robert, all that nostalgia plus $4.50 will get me a large coffee at starbucks.
  • i got the signs from my son today, so hopefully i'll get some time to go downstairs and work on the model tonight.
also....i bit the bullet and bought a small pack of evan engineering leds.
    [gulp] here we go.....
  • The Evans LED's look neat...I have some too....going to add some in to a few kits
  • When I first started using LED's inside and outside of my structures I didn't like the pure white light so I bought a jar of Tamiya "Clear Yellow" X-24 tint. With this tint you can put on one or more coats of tint to adjust the warmness of lighting you desire.

i built three light boxes. i'm going to light behind the double doors, the two windows on the far left end and an upstairs window. i''m also going to light the veranda.
    front wall light boxes
i bought a pack of 5 pico lights from evan's, and two battery clips. i will probably also end up buying a light pole for down around the dock.
  • That will look very cool.
  • i'm certainly hoping so.
  • lights came today! i'll be busy tonight. i think i'm going to pry the light boxes off and apply a little "interior" to them.
  • fellas, i'm embarrassed to say, i am absolutely terrible at math. i need to figure out how many sheets of shingles i'm gonna need to roof this pig.
the gable roof panels are 3 3/4" x 9" (x2), and the main roof dimensions are 20" x 4" (x2).not taking into consideration how much is eliminated by the valley, but i'm not worried about having extra shingles, it's just that the number i came up with is ridiculously high. so, if there any mathemeticians out there, how many square inches of roof do i need to cover?
    sorry i'm such a dope......
  • For rectangular areas, Kevin, that would be 227.5 square inches.

    Mark
  • I concur.

    Rick
  • you have no idea what a relief that is,,, heheheheh. my number was about 5 x highter.
  • higher
  • pete's in there gettin' lucky....pete's getting lucky
  • Can I get a reservation?.....Looking good with the lights. Great milestone. Rick
  • lighting is on hold until next week. i had to order some copper tape and it won't be here until a week from tomorrow.
the size of this pig is the reason i need the copper tape. the led leads aren't long enough cuz this damn this is so big. so i'm going to rig up a 'terminal' that the leds can attach to.
